Not long now until schools out for the Winter school holidays! Here are 5 great things to do with the kids in and around Melbourne:
1. Visit the Melbourne Zoo
Always a fun day out at the Zoo. Why not visit Melbourne Zoo these school holidays and see the giant beasts that once roamed freely on earth be brought back from extinction! Everybody roar, the Zoo’s got dinosaurs!!
If you’ve got a dinosaur lover in your family, then you have to see this. Open every day of the year from 9am-5pm. The best bit is children under 16 are FREE during school holidays – what’s not to love!
2. Experience Artvo at Docklands
ArtVo is an immersive art gallery or ‘trick art’ gallery – the first of its kind in Australia! You can explore the interactive gallery with 11 themed zones to choose from. Step into a world of optical illusions and larger than life murals. Unlike traditional galleries, you are encouraged:
- to take as many photos & selfies as you like;
- to touch & get amongst the art; and
- most importantly to have FUN!

3. Scienceworks
Get your creative on these school holidays at Scienceworks which is always bursting with things to challenge curious minds of all ages. It is heaven for the inquisitive mind AND it has just got even better with the announcement that Brickman: Cities Powered By Lego City is setting up residence at Scienceworks from Saturday 15 June to Sunday 4 August 2019. Tickets are $27.50 for Adults and $15 for Child or $68 for a family of 4 and your Brickman ticket includes entry to Scienceworks Museum.

4. Take a Melbourne River Cruise
Enjoy Melbourne from the water with a River Cruise. Melbourne River Cruises offer a great range of cruising options over the school holidays, ranging from 1 hour to a full day. The cruises depart from Southbank and head up and down the Yarra River. The cruises pass notable landmarks and the captain shares interesting facts about Melbourne, making them a great learning experience for the kiddos as well.

5. SkatingAt Ice Skating Festival
Turn the heat down and the excitement up at the SkatingAt pop up ice-skating festival in St Kilda!
It will run from 21 June to 14 July from 10am to 9pm daily on Acland Street. Glide under the sun or stars these school holidays. They also have great skating-aids available called “Kangas” that can help you balance on the ice or if you prefer, you can sit on them and glide around the rink. The Skating At Festival offers a true Winter wonderland experience for the whole family to enjoy.
