Everyone seems to know someone who has just been to Japan and so we had to go and try it too … and I have to say it was awesome as a family holiday destination.  Now its not the cheapest holiday if you normally hitch the caravan up or tent at the beach, but in terms of international travel and especially if you are into the snow, Japan is not over the top expensive. We completely loved it as a great chance to see another culture and also get to some of the best snow in the world. The main…

During the recent school holidays, 21 of my extended family went on a 7 night cruise in the South Pacific … we learnt a few things and so I thought I would tell you a little about it for those wondering if cruising could be for them. Firstly, it was awesome having all of my brothers and sisters and their whole families on the same holiday especially where we were in such close quarters. There are 12 cousins ranging from 2-16 and they all get on so well … and the adults treasured the time with their nieces, nephews and…

I recently wrote about our recent family adventure to Singapore and all the fun things we got up to there. But it was the second part of trip, when we headed to Sentosa Island, which we all enjoyed the most. If you’re going to Singapore with your family I’d highly encourage you to spend at least part of your trip on this family-friendly island paradise. Not only does the island have more than two kilometres of beautiful beach to enjoy, but it’s also home to Resorts World Sentosa, the island’s integrated resort with theme parks, hotels, Universal Studios Singapore,…

We recently had the chance to head over to Tangalooma Island Resort (only 75 minute boat ride from Brisbane) for the launch of the Whale Watching season in Moreton Bay and what a magical day it was. I had wanted to go to Tangalooma for quite some time as we live very close but life had always managed to get in the way. As a day trip weekend or holiday experience for a family I couldn’t recommend it more.  We took our 8, 6 and nearly 2 year old and all 3 of them had a blast. Our morning started off on…

My family and I recently spent a wonderful four days in the centre of the city-state Singapore. As you might already know, we’ve travelled quite a lot with our kids. Although it can be daunting, we also find it to be a really rewarding experience. My kids have been with us to Cambodia and Thailand, and although they were great trips they certainly weren’t as easy or relaxing as our recent trip to Singapore. I wrote a ‘how-to guide’ for families with kids based on our time there, and it’s just been published by Expedia on their inspirational travel blog…

PUT the gadgets away, pull on your gumboots and give your kids a food and farming experience they won’t forget. Scenic Rim Eat Local Week returns for the first week of the Queensland school holidays, from June 25 to July 3, and is a chance to show your children where their food comes from. Between seeing cows milked by robots, picking their own carrots, cuddling a lamb and learning how to forage for native Australian ingredients, there will be no time for complaints of ‘I’m bored’. Scenic Rim Eat Local Week is a popular food and farming festival that asks…

Nouvelle Caledonie / French Polynesia I love France and all things French (the language is just sublime!!)…but travelling from Australia it’s a big, planned, expensive event. So just a short flight away, we get to experience the influence of French colonial history, the blend of flavours and of course the language, while also immersing oneself in the Melanesian culture. And remarkably the combination works beautifully! Noumea has a fun cosmopolitan vibe being the capital of New Caledonia, and best of all… pain au chocolat!! Mouth watering and delicious! If you have the time (which I really recommend), travel away from…
